House Gucci was founded by Guccio Gucci in 1921. Inspired by the beauty of luggage’s that he saw at the Savoy Hotel in London while working. Gucci returned to Florence with the objective to combine refined elegance of wealthy travelers with the fine craftsmanship of traditional artisans from Florence.
The company’s first fragrance, Gucci No. 1 for women was introduced in 1974.
Tom Ford served as creative director of the company from mid-90s to early 21st century. The creative director Frida Giannini has been at the “helm” since 2005.
