Yves Saint Laurent is a French fashion house founded by Yves Henri Donat Mathieu-Saint-Laurent. The fashion house and designer name are often abbreviated as YSL.
Laurent’s career in fashion began at the tender age of 17, when he served as assistant to Christian Dior. After Dior’s death four years later, Laurent was named head of the Dior house, just 21 years old. Still young then, when the Algerian War of Independence broke out, Laurent was drafted into the Army in 1960 and lost his leadership position at Dior.
After completing service in the army, Laurent started his own fashion company and became one of the most influential fashion designers of the 1960s and 1970s.
Laurent became known for his costumes for women.
The first fragrance of the fashion house Y for Women was launched in 1964.
YSL offers perfumes in collaboration with L’Oreal Group.
